So first things first, and listen up, because this is important: in working toward your ideal weight, (which I hope is a healthy and realistic goal), diet is more important than working out. Yes, I just said that. On a fitness blog. But it's true. I used to tell my clients, "Look, it's 60/40," meaning 60% of your weight is dependent on diet, 40% on exercise. Why is that? Because an average person during an average workout burns around 200-300 calories. In terms of food, that's not much. If you overeat, no workout, (unless you're a professional athlete), is going to burn up all that excess fat.
Which brings me to the next point, one of the facts (yes, it's a fact), on which Fit 411 is built: It's all about calories in, calories out. There is no magic formula, no fad diet, no surgery that will give you solid, long-term results, (regardless of what the latest Glamour issue says). You have to do the work. And it's not easy, but I firmly believe that it's totally doable, for anyone. And I hope that this here bloggy-blog will offer some help. Even if it only makes a difference for one person, it will have been worth it. So here's to a healthy, happy us!
One of the many times I stopped typing to give my energetic son some attention.
Hmmm, I wonder if this blog will actually happen ...
